Liquid Nitrogen...How Dangerous Is It Really?

Liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of -196C which is intensely cold and can cause frostbite or cryogenic burns if it is not used and handled, properly. Liquid nitrogen also has a large expansion ratio on evaporation - one litre of liquid nitrogen can result in about 700 litres of gas...these facts resulted in a teenager that had her stomach removed after drinking a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen.

Abandoned Island Fortress Off The Florida Coast

Set among a graveyard of over 200 ships, there is a series of seven islands which is located 70 nautical miles off the coast of Key West in Florida. The Dry Tortugas is a massive 19th century fortress (once hosted Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon and an influx of marauding pirates), which is now a bird and wildlife sanctuary and a national park.

The Japanese Invasion of Alaska: The Forgotten Battle

Known as The Forgotten Battlethe invasion caused widespread outrage in 1942.  Pearl Harbor was still a fresh memory, having been attacked on December 7 of the previous year. 
Early on th morning of 6 June 1942, 500 Japanese soldiers landed on Kiska, one of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The attack surprised the ten man (and six dog) US Navy Weather Detachment, the only inhabitants of the island at the tiime.
